The title compd. I was prepd. from pregnanetrione II. Thus, ketalization of II using HOCH2CH2OH followed by redn. using KBH4 and then dehydration gave pregnene III. The Grignard reaction of III and MeMgBr followed by acid hydrolysis and bromination-dehydrobromination gave I.
