Complex from chloramphenicol palmitate and calcium pantothenate

A tasteless complex (I) composed of 4 moles chloramphenicol palmitate (II) and 1 mole Ca pantothenate (III) is described. Thus, a mixt. of 2246 g. II and 476 g. III was stirred at 110.degree. under N for 30 min., cooled, and ground to yield I, m. .apprx.92-106.degree., insol. in H2O. I suspended in H2O changes to a complex (IV), m. 195-202.degree., [.alpha.] 40.degree. (c 1, MeOH), soly. in H2O 79 mg./l cc. IV is the form present in a syrup contg. I.
