Deoxycycline (I, R = OH) and 6-deoxytetracycline (I, R = H) were manufd. by fermn. of common media contg. the anhydrotetracyclines II by Streptomyces alboflavus NCIB 10,588 or S. lusitanus. I (R = OH) was isolated as hydrochloride hemihydrate hemiethanolate.
